Elsie E. "Liz" (Deckman) Fitz

York- Elsie Elizabeth “Liz” (Deckman) Fitz, 89, passed away February 15, 2024 at Country Meadows in York. She was the wife of the late Nelson H. “Sonny” Fitz, Jr. to whom she was married for 37 years.

Born May 10, 1934 in Lower Windsor Township, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Katie (Hause) Deckman.

Everyone who knew Elizabeth would agree she was a force of nature both personally and professionally. She and her husband were the largest poultry producers in Pennsylvania for many years. She belonged to several poultry federation organizations and the Farm Women’s Association for many years. She grew beautiful flower gardens, loved reading, was an excellent cook, was partial to the colors pink and green, loved the ocean, and was a chocolate aficionado.

She was loyal to her family and friends, was known to be fiercely independent, was a feminist and woman ahead of her time who unapologetically lived her truth, had a strong work ethic, and had a biting sense of humor. She truly was the embodiment of Shakespeare’s words “Though she be but little she is fierce”. Everyone who met her would remember her beautiful blue eyes. She raised strong independent children, cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchild, all of whom were blessed to have her in their lives. She will be greatly missed but her spirit will forever inhabit the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Fitz is survived by her two children, Christopher Thomas and Susan Wales and her husband Thomas of Dover; a step-daughter, Tamara Bupp of Red Lion; a granddaughter, Aimee Jungclaus of Janesville, WI; a step-grandson, Nathan Bupp; and a great-granddaughter, Isabel Jungclaus. Liz is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., York is assisting the family with arrangements.
