WELLSBURG NY - Elmer E. Cranmer, 79, of Chemung, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Betty Jean (Anderson) Cranmer. The couple married August 15, 1953 and had 57 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 12:00pm on Monday, April11, 2011 at the Ashland Cemetery in Wellsburg, NY for the graveside service with Chaplain Dave Knuppenburg officiating. Military rites will be given by the Chemung County Veterans Honor Guard and flag folding from the New York State Military Forces Honor Guard. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, New York has been entrusted with the arrangements. Elmer was born on September 7, 1931 in Watkins Glen, NY, son of the late Albert and Lula Mae (Albee) Cranmer. He was a U.S. Armey veteran, serving in the Korean War, and where he received the Purple Heart medal for being wounded in action. He worked for the Horseheads Holding Center in Horseheads, enjoyed fishing, camping and long drives in the car. Elmer was Christian by faith. Family was everything to Elmer. His family includes his wife Betty, his children: Eugene Cranmer of Chemung, NY, Alan (Darlene) Cranmer of Waverly, NY, Barbara (Stanley) Stromitis of Waverly, NY, Debra (Luke Eiklor) Conklin of Barton, NY, Steven (Kathie) Cranmer of Lowman, NY, and Terri (Donald) Boehm, Jr. of Elmira, NY, 21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, his brother Russell (Patricia) Cranmer of North Chemung, NY, his sister-in-law Helen Cranmer, and several nieces and nephews. Elmers oldest son, David Cranmer of Sayre, PA, passed away shortly after his fathers death on Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. David is survived by his wife Lynn and his family. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Henry and Albert Sonny Cranmer, and his sister Alberta Bertie Woodard. Memorial contributions may be made in Elmers memory to the Chemung Volunteer Fire Department, 670 Main Street P.O. Box 181, Chemung, NY 14825 or to the Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830 or the Greater Valley EMS, 904 North Lehigh Avenue Sayre, PA 18840-1842.
