Ellen "Helen" Gordon

YORK – Ellen “Helen” (Burns) Gordon, 83, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Country Meadows of York – West. She was the wife of the late Henry Crail “Harry” Gordon. A celebration of life tribute service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Donna M. Hoffman officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Thursday at the Funeral Chapel. Born August 17, 1936 in Belfast, Northern Ireland; a daughter of the late William Robert and Ellen (Alexander) Burns; she had worked part-time at Bon Ton Dept. Stores, the former York Bank & Trust and as a teacher’s aide at Southern York County School District. As a teacher’s aide, Helen fulfilled her passion for developing and caring for children with special needs. Mrs. Gordon was a member of the Cosmopolitan Group in York, enjoyed knitting and visiting residents at the York Lutheran Home who had no local family. She also cherished following her two sons competitive swimming careers throughout high school and college. Mrs. Gordon is survived by a son, H. Crail Gordon, Jr. and wife Linda of Manheim, PA; three grandchildren, Maura Rose Gordon of Manheim, Alexander Henry Crail Gordon of Santa Barbara, CA and Daniel Michael Gordon and wife Morgan of Marietta; a brother, Herbie Burns of Belfast; a sister, Margaret McKeowen of Belfast; and a brother in law, William W. Gordon and his companion Thelma Kuhlman of York. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Aaron Gordon; and eight siblings.
