Ella Mae 'Ellie' Matthews

YORK- Ella Mae “Ellie” Matthews, 82, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at York Hospital. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Pastor Dennis McCleary officiating. A visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. Born on May 8, 1931 in Red Lion, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Esther (Keesey) Matthews. Ellie was an inspector for Red Lion Controls until her retirement and worked part time for Weis Markets. Ms. Matthews was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in York. She enjoyed her time volunteering at Memorial Hospital, the American Red Cross and at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. Ms. Matthews is survived by one brother, Dean Matthews of Middleburg; five sisters, Doris Meisenhelter of West York, Phyllis Campbell of Red Lion, Faye Somers of Dallastown, Jean Bailey of York and Deanna Garrett and her husband, David of Red Lion; a brother in law, Dale Burk of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Matthews; and two sisters, Mary Burk and Olga Bock. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 724 S. George St., York, PA 17401.
