YORK- Elizabeth “Bettie”Mae (Stauch) Thomas, 82, entered into eternal life on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Memorial Hospital after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease. She was the wife of Howard F. “Bud” Thomas, to whom she was married for 63 years. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 N. Beaver St., York with her pastors, the Reverend Robert A. Vizthum and the Reverend Owen H. Walter officiating. A viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on November 17, 1934 in York, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine (Luckenbaugh) Stauch. Bettie was a secretary for York City School District for 30 years until her retirement in 1999. Mrs. Thomas was a 50 year member at Messiah United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for 35 years. Bettie enjoyed ceramics, sewing, flowers and shopping. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with her husband, Howard, Bettie is survived by three daughters, Diana Patrizio and husband, John, Judy Newton and husband, Kevin and Cathy Thomas, all of York; four grandchildren, Anthony Patrizio and wife, Ashley of York, Aleisha Hake and husband, Jason of York, Mark Newton and wife, Donna of Broomall and Kyle Newton and wife, Rachael of Lancaster; four great grandchildren, Landon, Camryn, Evan and Chloe and one on the way; one brother, Donald Stauch and wife, Marcia of Manchester; one sister, Eileen Lau of York; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Rose and Frances Szczepanek; and four brothers, James, Lewis, Ralph and Joseph Stauch. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, Inc., 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 or Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 N. Beaver St., York, PA 17404. Bettie’s family would like to give a special thanks to all of her caregivers over the years.
