Elizabeth H. (Beck) Gudknecht

REHOBOTH BEACH- Elizabeth H. (Beck) Gudknecht, 88, formerly of York, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at her son’s residence. She was the wife of John M. Gudknecht. The couple had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 29th. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd., York with the Reverend Kathy Seitz-Bortner officiating. A funeral cortege will meet at the entrance of the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Gudknecht was born on November 17, 1922 in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late William and Sarah Beck. Elizabeth and her husband owned and operated Gudknecht’s Groceries in Telford for 12 years. She later worked as a cashier for Landis’ Grocery Store. Mrs. Gudknecht was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church while residing in York and Groome United Methodist in Lewes, DE, where she was active in the Prayer Group. Elizabeth was a loving mother and wife. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandson, John IV. Along with her husband, John, Mrs. Gudknecht is survived by a son, John M. Gudknecht III and his wife, Ann of Rehoboth Beach; a grandson, John M. Gudknecht IV and his wife, Amy of Wrightsville; and a sister in law, Agnes Beck of Walla Walla, Washington.
