WAVERLY- Elizabeth Elmira "Betty" (Sayman) Chapman, 83, of Waverly, NY passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009, at the Elderwood Nursing Facility in Waverly. She was the loving wife of the late Claude E. Chapman who passed away on March 14, 2008. The couple married June 12, 1948 and had 59 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 and again from 9:00-10:00 AM on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY. The funeral Service to honor Betty's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 10th at the funeral home with Rev. James Donahoo of the Sayre Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), officiating. Burial will follow the service in Bradford County Memorial Park. Betty was born on December 17, 1925 in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, PA, daughter of the late Fred and Rose A. (Silverstrim) Sayman. She was a 1944 graduate of New Albany High School, she retired from the Chemung County DSS as a homemaker. Betty was a member of the New Albany VFW Woman's Auxiliary, the Chemung Woman's Racing Association, and enjoyed crafts and sewing. Betty is survived by her son Dennis (Cheryl) Chapman of Erin, NY, her daughter Wendy (Sam) Keely of Waverly, NY, her grandchildren: Jerime Chapman, Shannon Chapman, Joshua Chapman, Adam Keely, Douglas Jones, and Alexander Huff, her brothers: Fredrick (Dorothy) Sayman, Jr., Ervin (Jo) Sayman, and Howard (Trudy) Sayman, her sister Deloris Cox, along with several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Claude, her grandson Matthew Keely, and her sister Esther Keeney. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions be made in Betty's name to the Lourdes Hospice, 231 Main Street, Owego, NY 13827.
