Elizabeth 'Betty' (Brezak) Maleski

SCRANTON- Elizabeth “Betty” (Brezak) Maleski, 99, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, at Our Lady of Peace Residence, Scranton, PA. A life long resident of Avoca, Betty was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Pierkarski) Brezak. She was a member of Scared Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, PA. Her husband, John Maleski passed away in 1987, the year of their golden Wedding anniversary. She was also preceded by her parents and siblings: Stella Rafalko, Charlotte Mruk, Antoinette Hudzinski, Anthony Brezak, Matthew Brezak, and Mary, who died as a child. Betty is survived by her daughters, Sister Anita Maleski, IHM of Marywood, Scranton, and Mary Maleski, who is married to John Fruehwith, Syracuse, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews. A loving, gifted, generous, and devoted daughter, wife, mother, aunt, and friend, Betty greatly treasured both her family and her friends. She often expressed a profound gratitude for their presence in her life. Through the years, She was a member of her church’s Alter & Rosary Society, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Marion Convent Guild, and the Avoca Senior Citizens Club. She loved to sew and crochet, both of which she did superbly well. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 11, at 10:30 AM in Queen of the Apostles Parish (formerly St. Mary’s) 715 Hawthorne Street, Avoca with Father Joseph D. Verespy, of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may attend a viewing at the church from 10:00AM till the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, please make send contributions to the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509, who ministered to Betty at Our Lady of Peace Residence during her final years.
