JACOBUS - Eleanor (Mathiasen) Wardrop, 104, of Jacobus, died at 2:25 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Shrewsbury. She was the wife of the late D. Walter Wardrop who died in 1971. Following cremation, a private burial will be at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Jacobus. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Wardrop was born November 2, 1907, in Perth Amboy, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Marie M. (Lund) Mathiasen. She was a graduate of the Pratt Institute in New York City where she earned her degree in Art. She was a secondary education teacher at the Perth Amboy School District for a number of years and later performed hand coloring of photos at Blatner Photography Studio in York. She was also a loving homemaker. Mrs. Wardrop was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus and was a long standing member of the church’s “Cover Girls” quilting group. She leaves her son, David W. Wardrop, Jr. and wife, Beth of Tucson, AZ; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Wambaugh in 1984, and two brothers, Stanley Mathiasen in 1993 and Walter Mathiasen, Jr. in 1996. Memorial contributions may be made to the York County Food Bank, 254 West Princess Street, York, PA 17401.
