Eleanor M. (Oberdick) Meckley

WEST MANCHESTER TWP. - Eleanor M. (Oberdick) Meckley, 86, of York, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Country Meadows of York. She was the wife of Daniel G. Meckley, III. The couple was married for 63 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a visitation from 9-10 a.m. Mrs. Meckley was born in York on April 9, 1922, a daughter of the late Raymond H. and Eleanor (Hedrick) Oberdick. Mrs. Meckley was a member of First Presbyterian Church in York, an Emeritus Member of the Junior League of York, a former member of Young Women's Club of York, and a member of the Country Club of York. She and her family lived in Mansfield, OH from 1958-1968 before returning to York. While living in Mansfield, OH, she was an avid gardener and President of Hill and Dale Garden Club. She was the first woman President of Edgar Fahs Smith Junior High School Student Body and a member of the first class of the York Junior College. She was an avid skier and sail boat racer for 40 years. Along with her husband, Mrs. Meckley leaves two sons: Daniel G. Meckley, IV, of Denver, CO and David G. Meckley and his wife Elizabeth H. of York; two grandchildren: Allison Meckley and Daniel G. Meckley, V and his wife Candace T., both of York; a brother, Raymond H.
