YORK – Edwin R. McCarty, 79, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Manor Care – North. He was the husband of M. Dolores (Grimes) McCarty to whom he was married for 59 years on June 28, 2011. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 1, 2011 at Fourth United Methodist Church, 1067 E. Market Street, York with Rev. Mitchell M. Galloway officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York and from 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born November 3, 1931 in Hughesville, a son of the late Clyde and Mamie (Bartlow) McCarty; he retired as plant manager for David Edward furniture manufacturer and had also served as plant manager at his previous employers, Keystone Furniture Manufacturers and Thonet Industries. Mr. McCarty was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; West York VFW; Shiloh American Legion; and Hawks Gunning Club. He enjoyed bowling at East Lincoln Lanes, Lincolnway Bowling Center, and was a member of the US Bowling Congress. His other interested included woodworking, feeding the birds in his yard, going on cruises and motor home traveling with his wife across the US, and rooting for the Baltimore Orioles. Mr. McCarty was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Mr. McCarty is survived by a son, Gregory S. and wife Sue McCarty of Dover; three daughters, Susan J. Gantz of Gettysburg, Terry L. and husband Stewart Runk, Jr. of Dover, and Lori A. and husband David Ruppert of Dover; seven grandchildren, Jared Runk, Jon Spahr, Tracy Panzer, Lindy Beshore, Kyla Burg, Todd Gantz, and Travis Ruppert; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Spring of York. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Paul McCarty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Edwin McCarty to support youth bowling may be sent to York-Adams USBC, 2501 Catherine St, Suite 7, York PA 17408 or to your favorite charity.
