Edwin A. "Ed" Resser

YORK - Edwin Allen “Ed” Resser, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Country Meadows, Trolley Rd. He is survived by his wife of more than fifty-seven years, Linda Ann (Joseph) Resser. Ed was born on August 11, 1941 in York. He was the son and only child of the late Alpheus William and Helen Elizabeth (Nickol) Resser. Ed grew up in the west end of York where he would rise early in the morning to deliver newspapers. He was a 1959 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and later attended York Junior College where he met his future wife, Linda. He then went on to earn an elementary education degree from Millersville State College, a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Shippensburg State College, and an administrative certification from Western Maryland College. Ed was a long-time employee of the West York Area School District, including positions as a sixth-grade teacher at the A.H. Martin Building, head teacher at the William Penn Building (later named Loucks School), principal at both Shiloh and Sunset Lane Elementary Schools, and various positions in the administration building. In 1979, Ed was hired as the Personnel Director for the West Shore School District and subsequently held numerous principal and administrator positions within the district before retiring in 1998. Ed was musically talented (particularly with the French horn) and was frequently giving of those talents in several ways. He instructed numerous French horn students at his family home during weekly private music lessons. Ed also played for several local musical organizations including the York Symphony Orchestra (during his high school years), the Spring Garden Band, the Emigsville Band, Consistory Orchestra, the York High Alumni Band, and others. Perhaps at his happiest, Ed could often be found relaxing at home with orchestral music or jazz playing the soundtrack to his life, located mere steps away from some part of his collections of still banks, elephant figurines, or pottery coffee mugs. Other local organizations benefitted from his generosity of time and effort over the years. For several years, Ed was an active member of the Weigelstown Lions Club. Ed was also a past master (1985) of the White Rose Lodge No. 706 of the Free and Accepted Masons. Ed also became a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Ed was a life-long Lutheran and a member of Union Lutheran Church in his younger years, after which he became a member of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ed served these congregations in numerous capacities including church council positions and worship and music committee positions, often serving with Linda. Along with his wife, Linda, Ed is also survived by his children, Ann Thorner (husband Richard) of Manchester, NH; David Resser (wife Tina) of Avon, OH; and his three granddaughters: Katherine Thorner, Ava Resser, and Alexandra Resser. A service in celebration of Ed’s life will be held at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market St. on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Kevin T. Shively officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery.
