Edward W. Herbst

RED LION- Edward W. Herbst, 96, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. He was the companion of Joan Kohler of Red Lion. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with the Reverend Edward Wible officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, both at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on February 22, 1921 in Red Lion, he was a son of the late Emory and Margie (Zeigler) Herbst. Ed owned and operated Herbst Garage in Red Lion for over 70 years. Mr. Herbst served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Ed loved traveling to Ocean City, MD where he enjoyed fishing, boating and camping. He was a member of Red Lion American Legion Post 543, Stewartstown American Legion Post 455 and Red Lion VFW Post 1446. Mr. Herbst is survived by four sons, Richard Herbst of Red Lion, Donald Herbst, Sr. and wife, Judy of Red Lion, Edward Herbst of Windsor and Rick Herbst of Red Lion; four daughters, Carol Hilt and husband, Earl of Felton, June Miller of York, Sue Bankert and husband, Wayne of Red Lion, and Stacy Hunter and husband, Ron of Red Lion; 22 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Herbst of Dallastown and Junior Herbst of Red Lion; and one sister, Ellen Wierman of Red Lion. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude Herbst and second wife, Emma Herbst; and son, Genie Herbst.
