Edward W. Cubler, Md

POTTSVILLE- Edward W. Cubler, MD, 92 of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday morning at Reading Hospital. Born in Phildaelphia on September 13, 1918, he was a son of the late Edward J. and Mary Jeanette Mager Cubler. Dr. Cubler was a captain of medical corps in the Army, having served during World War II. Dr. Cubler was a graduate of East Providence High School, Rhode Island. He was a Rhode Island State High School Wrestling champion. He graduated 1st in his class from the University of Rhode Island. In 1945 he graduated in the top 10% of his class at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. He then interned and received specialized training in anesthesia from Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, PA. Dr. Cublers served as head anesthesiologist at the Pottsville Hospital for 30 years. He served as the medical doctor for the Schuylkill County Prison for 15 years. He was the School physician for Schuylkill Haven Schools for 20 years. He served as the head of the well baby clinics around Schuylkill County. He founded and operated the Pottsville Hospital School of Nurse Anesthetists. Dr. Cublers was a member of the AOA, a medical honor society, the American Medical Association, the PA Medical Society and Schuylkill County Medical Society. He was past president of the Pottsville Hospital, member of the Schuylkill Haven Board of Health and a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #30, Providence, RI. Dr. Cubler was recently preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dorothea Jerre Hoiden Cubler, who passed away on March 6, 2011; his brother, Stephen Cubler. He is survived by his three daughters, Dorothea Ann Sitkus, of New Hope, PA, Bonnie Bee Julian, of Schuylkill Haven, and Amy Jeanette Goodman, wife of Dr. David Goodman, of Doylestown, PA; his grandson, Andrew Edward Goodman, a student at Drexel University; his two sisters, Bonnie Caudell and Beatrice Atkins, both of Snow Hill, MD; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
