Edward R. Smith

YORK – Edward R. Smith, 74, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025 at his residence. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Riley) Smith to whom he was married over 50 years.

Born March 2, 1950 in Violet Hill, he was a son of the late Russell and Catherine R. (King) Smith. After graduating from Central York High School, Mr. Smith joined the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed on the USS Tulare Ship during the years of the Vietnam War. After Ed honorably served our country, he went on to become a welder at York International, later retiring in 2012. Outside of his working life, he was a prior member of Christ Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and coaching soccer and baseball. His family will remember his great sense of humor and how proud he was of his beloved grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Pat, he is survived by his two sons, Shawn Smith and his wife Jennifer of York and Matthew Smith and his wife Amanda of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Riley Smith, Ian Smith, Noah Smith, and Natalie Smith; a brother, Douglas Smith; five sisters, Lavon Lauber, Sandra Everhart, Catherine Leininger, Cheryl Hoke, and Kimberly Smith. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Russell Smith, Joan Deller, and Betty Beakler.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements.
