Edward R. Lehigh, 96, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at Autumn House East. He was the husband of the late Maria (Nickl) Lehigh. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, July 14, 2016 at York First Church of God, 503 Vander Ave., York with full military honors presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. The Rev. Glenn A. Detter will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-6:00 PM Thursday at the Church. Private burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born February 10, 1920 in York a son of the late Ervin E. and Minnie M. Lehigh, he retired worked for more than 30 years at Cole Steel and then retired from Industrial Solid State Controls, Inc. Mr. Lehigh was a member of York County Fire Police Assoc., Mountain Grove Chapel Church of the Nazarene and had served as a volunteer firefighter with Pleasureville Fire Co. Edward enjoyed woodworking and was a proud US Army veteran of WWII where he fought with the 15th Combat Battalion. Mr. Lehigh is survived by two sons, Steven E. and wife Pam Lehigh and Rick D. and wife Lori Lehigh both of York; two daughters, Susan M. Billet of York and Anna Mae and husband Donald Freeze of Emigsville; ten grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Hagerman; and seven brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Grove Chapel Church of the Nazarene, 170 Andersontown Rd., Dover, PA 17315 or to assist active duty veterans through the USO, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077.
