BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NEW YORK – Edward P. Frantz, 66, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the home of his cousin, Holly and her husband, Dr. Gordon Bell in York, PA. He was preceded in death by his partner of 25 yrs., Ron Alexander who had been the editor of the column Metropolitan Diary, featured in the New York Times. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, PA with Rev. Jonathan P. Sawicki officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:30-2:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Chapel. Private burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery in York. Born October 15, 1947 in York a son of Patricia (Rineman) Frantz of York and the late Edward Z. Frantz. Ed was a 1965 graduate of York Catholic High School and in 1969 graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, with a B.A. degree in Political Science. Following college, he served in the Peace Corps for two years in Panama. He then studied at the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, Rochester, NY. Ed was a lifelong learner and student of the arts and theology. He was a 1979 graduate of Instituto Europeo di Design, Milan, Italy; and in 1980 earned his B. F.A in Environmental Design from Parsons School of Design in New York. Ed had over thirty years of diversified experience as a New York designer specializing in environmental graphic design. After eight years as a graphic coordinator with Olympia & York, he joined Lebowitz Gould Design Inc. During his career he led design efforts in major health care, educational, civic, corporate and retail projects. Most recently Ed was the designer for the new full city block 12-story vertical campus of John Jay College in Manhattan. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and enjoyed his retreats at the Desert House of Prayer in Tucson, AZ. In addition to his mother, Mr. Frantz is survived by a sister, Jane Bers and husband George Bers of Pleasant Hill, CA; a nephew, Nicholas Bers and his wife, Maddie Grossgart of Burien, WA; and a niece, Emilie Bers of Santa Monica, CA.
