Edward L. "Ed" Bennett

NEW COLUMBIA - Edward L. “Ed” Bennett, Sr., 65, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Lewisburg on November 19, 1949 and was the son of the late Warren T. and Bessie M. (Miller) Bennett, Sr. Ed was a graduate of the Milton High School Class of 1967. He worked as a correctional officer for over 25 years and retired in 1998 from the Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution, Muncy. After retiring he went on to own and operate the Newky Country Store, New Columbia for 10 years. Most recently Ed was employed by Plaza House Furniture, Shamokin Dam. Ed was a member of the Milton Moose Club and the Spruce Run Hunting Camp, Mifflinburg. Ed was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping, fishing and being outdoors. Most of all he loved spending time with his dog, Libby. He is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law; Ricky E. and Fawn Bennett of Woodbridge, VA, Richard A. Bennett of New Columbia, Edward L. Bennett, Jr. of Milton and Mark A. and Courtney Bennett of Akron, OH, one daughter and son-in-law; Rebekah E. and Justin Zechman of Minot, ND and six grandchildren; Brandon T. Bennett, Forrest I. Bennett, Zackary O. Bennett, Logan E. Bennett, Reese O. Bennett and Flynn E. Zechman. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by one brother; Warren T. “Tom” Bennett, Jr. and one sister; Betty J. Shemory. A gathering of friends and family will be held 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2015 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton, PA 17847. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
