YORK – Edward J. Mehring, 86, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Betty J. (Grove) Mehring to whom he would have been married for 65 years this coming Wednesday, April 23, 2014. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with his Pastor, The Rev. Stanley D. Reep officiating. Viewings will be held from 7-9:00 PM Tuesday and 9-10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown. Born December 29, 1927 in Littlestown, a son of the late Robert L. and Jeanetta S. (Formwalt) Mehring, he had graduated from Littlestown High School, York Junior College, and Gettysburg College. Mr. Mehring retired in 1987 from the former York International after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Hawks Gunning Club and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Edward was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing baseball in the military and during his youth. He was a US Merchant Marine and US Army veteran of WWII. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mehring is survived by a daughter, Kimberly A. and husband David Walker of York; a son, Craig A. and wife Lynn Mehring of York; six grandchildren, Jud Mehring, Nicole Guss, John Mehring, Nika Groff, Caryssa Ellis, and Laryssa Walker; six great grandchildren, Dylan, Ethan, and Spencer Mehring, Lexi and Lilly Guss, and Robert Ellis, Jr.; and his late son, Ron Mehring’s fiancée, Tina Groff of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce and Ronald Mehring; a brother, and four sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 25 W.
