YORK- Edward H. Bupp, 93, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Grace Kahler (Hoke) Bupp, who passed away on November 17, 2011. The couple would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 27. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1030 Carlisle Ave, York, with the Reverend Dr. Bradley A. Brown officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and 9-10 a.m. on Friday, both at the church. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A funeral cortege will meet at the Pennsylvania Ave. entrance to the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is in charge of arrangements. Edward Bupp was born on April 17, 1918 in York, a son of the late Harry Wilmer and Mary Helen (Bentzel) Bupp. Ed graduated from West York High School and received an Associate’s Degree from York College. Edward was a Policeman for the York City Police Department for 20 years until his retirement in 1968. He was part of the original K-9 Department. He later worked as Dean of Students for the West York Area High School and served as a Deputy Sheriff in York County. Edward was a past member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and a current member of Zion United Methodist Church. Edward Bupp served our country for two years in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received the Service to Mankind Award in 1964 from the Sertoma Club of York. Edward was a charter member of the Viking Club and a member of the West York VFW Post #8951 and Shiloh American Legion Post #7. He was a public instructor for an Auxiliary Police class. Edward coached football for the West York Boy’s Club, York Boy’s Club and West York Jr. and Sr. High Schools. He was a longtime PIAA football, basketball, track & field official and ASA softball umpire. Edward Bupp is survived by two sons, Timothy Bupp and his wife, Sandra of York and Terry Bupp and his wife, Kathie of York; a daughter, Dianne Carson of Blue Bell, PA; seven grandchildren, Kayla Elaine Krebs and her husband, Robert, Kelsey Elise Bupp, Troy Allen Bupp and his wife, Jera Marie, Trent Aaron Bupp, Tracey Anne Elder and her husband, Andrew, Gordon Louis Carson, Jr. and his wife, Tracey and John Edward Carson; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Darwin Sunday Bupp of York. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of York County, P.O. Box 333, Dover, PA 17315 or a favorite charity of your choice in memory of Edward.
