LANSDALE- Edward George Wirsing was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on February 1, 1923. He graduated from Elmer L. Meyers High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa and Ital. He received his Honorable Discharge on November 24, 1945. Ed married Magdalene Jacobs, also of Wilkes-Barre, on February 12, 1945. He retired from Leeds and Northrup in 1972 and enjoyed his home and gardening and visiting his relatives. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Magdalene (Jacobs) Wirsing; a brother, Robert Wirsing and sister Mabel Crawford. He is survived by his two daughters: Cynthia (August Rotelle) and Diana (Alan McFarling); two grandchildren: Chandler “David” Gwilliam (Gala) and Christine Falter; and two great-grandchildren: Lauren and Mason Gwilliam. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013, at noon at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with Pastor Wayne Kaufman of Faith Lutheran Church, Blakeslee, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fisher House Foundation, Inc., 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850 or the Montgomery County SPCA, 19 East Ridge Pike, P.O. Box 222, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
