LEWISBURG-Edward G. Carter, 89 died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Evangelical Community Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jean (Riley) Carter. The couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on July 19, 2008 A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 in The Village Common at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, 6 Tressler Blvd., in Lewisburg. Rev. Theodore Cockley, Chaplain to Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, will be officiating the service. Burial will be private at a later date at Girard, PA. Mr. Carter was born in Erie, PA on September 29, 1919, a son of the late Charles E. and Ella R. (Luce) Carter. He was preceded in death by two brothers Charles and John. He was the Owner and Operator of Pyramid Oil Company in Girard, PA for over 30 years before retiring in 1983. After high school, Mr. Carter began working at Security Peoples Trust in Erie, until being drafted into The US Army where he served in the European Theater in WWII. He was a member and involved with all aspects of the First Universalist Church in Girard, PA. He was very active in Community affairs in Girard, including being the first President of the Chamber of Commerce, and President of both Borough Council and Exchange Club. He was an avid stamp collector and a member of American Philatelic Society. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. Ed and Jean moved to Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village in Lewisburg in 1991. Along with his wife, Mr. Carter leaves two sons, Charles R. Carter and his wife Linda of Emmaus and Christopher Carter and his friend Carolyn of Emmaus; a daughter, Terry Cole of Newark Valley, NY; six grandchildren, Lisa, Daniel, Emily, Kate, Andy, and Ali; two great grandchildren, Joseph and Heather; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Benevolent Care Fund, 889 Fairground Rd., Lewisburg, PA 17837. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton, PA
