NEW OXFORD - Edward C. Eckert, 93, formerly of Dallastown, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home Community. He was the husband of the late Ruth L. (Markey) Eckert, who passed away on April 5, 2011. The couple had been married for 67 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion. A visitation will be from 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Stump’s Union Cemetery, York Township Born on June 30, 1920 in Dallastown, he was the son of the late Charles and Lottie (Hoffman) Eckert. Edward worked construction for James F. Favino, Inc. in Red Lion and retired in 1992 from York Casket Co. Mr. Eckert was a member of Faith Community at the Brethren Home, a former member of Codorus Church of the Brethren where he served as a Deacon and a former member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren. Mr. Eckert served as a conscientious objector during WWII. He was inducted into the Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow for the York Adams Area and volunteered for troop 43 at Christ Lutheran Church in Dallastown. Edward enjoyed gardening, woodworking and traveling across the U.S. Mr. Eckert is survived by one daughter, Cindy E. Bacon and her husband, Marlyn of Red Lion; six grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Todd Eckert, Jeston Bowman, Caryn Ellis and Melanie Porter; 12 great grandchildren; and a daughter in law, Pamela A. Eckert of Dallastown. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. Eckert; and a grandson, Derek A. Bacon.
