York—Edward A. Chmiel, 93, died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Manor Care Health Services-South. He was the husband of the late Jane J. (Junggust) Chmiel to whom he was married for 52 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 PM, Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with the Rev. Fr. Jonathan P. Sawicki officiating. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Born November 8, 1919 in Wheeling, W.Va, he was a son of the late Anthony and Catherine (Kobiela) Chmiel. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spring Grove and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 370 in Baltimore. Mr. Chmiel is survived by one son, Gary E. Chmiel and wife, Debra of York; one daughter, Leslie J. Conlen and husband, John Jr., of West Lawn; three grandchildren, Kelly, Tessa, and John III; one sister, Blanche Williams of Easton, MD. He was preceded in death by his siblings Vincent, Harry, and Joseph Chmiel, and Sr. Mary Fidelia Chmiel, C.S.S.F. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 3417-C Concord Rd, York, PA 17402 or to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Manor Care York South for their amazing care, kindness, and compassion during his stay with them.
