Edith Elizabeth (Martin) Gibb

YORK- Edith Elizabeth (Martin) Gibb, 91, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Manor Care Health Services-South in York. She was the wife of Raymond E. Gibb. Their wedding was July 1, 1936, having been married 72 1/2 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at St Paul's United Methodist Church in their social area, 45 First Ave, in Red Lion, with a visitation from 1-1:30 p.m. Burial will be private in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Gibb was born in Mercer County on May 21, 1917, a daughter of the late Samuel J. and Ethel Idella (Gilmore) Martin. Mrs. Gibb was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church since 1964, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the United Methodist Women, at St. Paul's as well as churches in Western PA. She was born and raised on a farm and was active in the Barkeyville Church of God. She was a 1935 Graduate of Grove City High School and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Gibb leaves two sons: William Gibb and his wife Ellen of York, and Robert Gibb and his wife Jean of Lititz; two daughters: Phyllis Short and her husband Tom of South Euclid, OH and Barbara Fake of Red Lion; 13 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. A daughter, Carol Louise Gibb Harding Safer and two brothers: Elton L. Martin and William Gilmore Martin had preceded her in death.
