RED LION - Earl S. Sprenkle, 90, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lois F. (Reider) Sprenkle. A celebration of tribute will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with the Reverend Chuck Sprenkle officiating. A viewing wil be from 1 to 2 p.m. and Masonic Rites will begin the service. Burial will be in Red Lion Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Born on August 5, 1924 in Red Lion, along with his twin brother Carl, to the late C. Walter and Mary (Posey) Sprenkle. Earl quit school in the 7th grade to go work in a factory. In 1942, at 18 years of age, he enlisted in the Navy. After a year of training in small boats, he went to Africa and Italy for more training before participating in the WWII invasion of southern France lasting from August 15, 1944-December 1944. He came home on a 30 day leave and Carl arranged a blind date with Lois Reider from Windsor. They got married Christmas day, 1947. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, Earl worked for the Red Lion Cabinet Factory for 4 years, then Red Lion Auto Parts for 5 years and Broadway Auto Parts for 40 years as an outside salesman. After he retired, he worked about 10 years for Lion Auto Inc. In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s he was one of the scoutmasters for Troop 29 at Bethany UMC in Red Lion and was also very active in the Red Lion Jaycees. He was accepted into the Masonic org. where he filled a chair for 25+ years for Red Lion Lodge 649, Zembo Temple Tall Cedars and Red Lion Scottish Rite. He also belonged to the Red Lion American Legion, the VFW and Post 35 Vietnam Vets. After Chris and Gary were honorably discharged from the Navy, they made over 30 trips to Canada for fishing expeditions. He and Lois traveled as far west to Hawaii; as far east to France, Monaco and Italy; as far south to Aruba and South America; and as far north to Canada and Nova Scotia. Along with his wife of 67 years, Lois, Earl is survived by two sons Chris Sprenkle(Valerie) and Gary Spenkle (Kay); three grandchildren, Stacey Beaverson (Jeff), Corey Sprenkle and Rob Hardy (Pam); 5 great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Nicole and Megan Beaverson and Luke and Caleb Hardy; two sisters, Dorothy Mohr and Norma Wise; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by three brothers Bruce, Dale, and his twin brother Carl; one daughter-in-law Joyce (Smith) Sprenkle, the mother of Stacey and Corey; and two brother-in-laws Henry Mohr and Robert Wise. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W.
