Earl A. 'Dick' Rost, Jr.

RED LION – Earl A. “Dick” Rost, Jr., 87, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Florine O. (Snyder) Rost. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Rev. Stephany S. Sechrist officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Red Lion Cemetery with full military rites provided by Dallastown American Legion Honor Guard. Born October 8, 1924 in Dallastown, a son of the late Erma (Huson) and Earl A. Rost, Sr., he was a 1942 graduate of Red Lion High School and attended Penn State University. Mr. Rost had owned Quality Cigar Co. and later Rost Bros. Industrial Engraving. Dick was a member of Dallastown American Legion 605, Red Lion VFW 1446, Red Lion Elks 1592, and Red Lion Free and Accepted Masons 649. He was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church. During WWII Mr. Rost enlisted in the US Navy and entered their Aviation Cadet Program from which he graduated and was commissioned into the US Coast Guard as an Ensign pilot. Mr. Rost is survived by three sons, Atty. David L. and wife Marlene Rost of Moorestown, NJ, Dr. Charles R. and wife Mary Rost of Lancaster, and Stephen A. and wife Sharon Rost of Quincy, PA; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, James A. Rost; and two sisters, Jean Schenck and Betsy Ness. He was preceded in death by a son, Earl “Rusty” Rost, III.
