E. Sargent Lehr

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP- E. Sargent Lehr, 93, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in York. He was the husband of Thelma L. (Henze) Lehr. The couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on July 28, 2009. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, with a viewing from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. His pastor, The Reverend Phyllis J. Baum will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Mr. Lehr was born in York on June 26, 1917, a son of the late Adam Henry and Nora J. (Baer) Lehr. He retired from Amp, Inc. in York, where he was a Tool and Die Maker and Engineer. Mr. Lehr was a charter member of Hayshire United Church of Christ in York where he served on the church council and building committee, was a 1937 graduate of North York High School, past President and member of the Manchester Township Lions Club, and former Judge of Elections for Manchester Township. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed boating with his family. Mr. Lehr leaves a son Greg A. Lehr and his wife Jacqueline of Goshen, IN, a daughter, Barbara A. Knight and her husband Richard of York; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Henry, Dale ,and John Lehr, all of York; and a sister, Lois Smith of York. He was preceded in death by a brother Charles "Peck" Lehr and two sisters, Phyllis Charlestone and Julia Poet.
