YORK- E. Hayden “Mitch” Mitchell, 73, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Orris) Mitchell. The couple celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on August 31, 2012. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York. Viewings will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Certified Celebrant Betty Frey will be officiating at the service. Burial will be held in Mount Rose Cemetery in York. Mitch was born in York on October 22, 1939, the son of the late Elwood Porter and Ethel Alda (Shenberger) Mitchell. He retired after 43 years service from Stetler Dodge in York and continued to work both at Stetler’s and York Revolution on a part time basis. Mitch was a 1957 graduate of William Penn Senior High where he was a member of the marching band and the Serenaders. He was a life member of Viking Athletic Club, and a member of Goodwill Fire Company. He volunteered with the York City Fire Police, where he served as Deputy Chief and also served as chief of North York Fire Police. He was a member of the York County Fire Police and served on the York City Civil Board. He was a member and a retired director of the PA State Bowling Association, and was a member of York/Adams Area USBC Bowling Hall of Fame. He was one of the original members of York High School Alumni Marching Band. He was also the leader of Hayden Mitchell Trio. Mitch leaves two sons, Daniel Mitchell and his wife Tammy of York and Richard “Rick” Mitchell and his wife Anita of East Berlin; four step children, Russell Cunningham of York, Debra Pfaff of Hanover, John Cunningham of York, and Susan Kline and her husband Kim of Norman, OK; five step grandchildren, Justin and Deirdre Kline, Sadie and Dylan Cunningham, and Owen Pfaff; and a sister, Evangeline Herman of York.
