YORK – Dwight W. Simmons, 83, died on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the York Lutheran Home. He was the husband on Barbara A. (Brosend) Simmons. The couple had been married for 60 years. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Pleasureville United Methodist Church, 2606 North Sherman Street, York PA 17406. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born on August 29, 1931 in Bridgewater, Virginia, he was a son of the late Wilmer N. and Mae V. (Knieley) Simmons. Dwight was a maintenance mechanic for DuPont until his retirement. Mr. Simmons was a member of Pleasureville United Methodist Church. He was an avid whittler. Mr. Simmons served our county for two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. Along with his wife, Barbara, Dwight is survived by two sons, David A. Simmons and his wife, Wendy of Mt. Wolf and Brian L. Simmons and his wife, Debra of Mechanicsburg; one daughter Melissa A. Bates of York; five grandchildren; two brothers Norwood Simmons of Georgia and Don Simmons of New Cumberland; and two sisters, Violet Smyser of York and Nancy Kite of York. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kirt Simmons; and a sister Elva Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasureville United Methodist Church, 2606 North Sherman Street, York PA 17406.
