YORK-Dwight R. Markey, 95, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Dallastown Nursing Home. He was the husband of Treva R. (Spangler) Markey. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on June 15, 2020. Services will be private for the immediate family only. There will be a livestreamed viewing available, starting at about 12:45 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020 followed by a graveside service at about 1 p.m. on Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory’s Facebook page. This will be available to the public starting at those approximate times and can also be viewed later. He will be buried in New Fairview Church of the Brethren in York. Mr. Markey was born in York on February 13, 1925, the son of the late Charles P. and Gertrude M. (Geiselman) Markey. He was self employed as a life long farmer. He bought his parents farm in 1953, which in 2013 was recognized as a century farm, 1913-2013. He also had stands at Central Market and The New Eastern Market, both in York, where they sold flowers from his greenhouses. He drove school bus for 42 years for Dallastown School District. Mr. Markey was a member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren, where he was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years. He was a member of Isaac Walton League of America. He enjoyed worldwide travel as well as photography. Mr. Markey leaves three daughters, Donna Jean Bortner and her husband, Jeffrey of York, Carol Ann Hensel and her husband Gary of York, and Bonnie Lou Mattas and her husband David of York; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a brother, Dale G. Markey of York as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roger Markey, Emmet Markey, Kenneth Markey, and Heil Markey; and a sister, Flo Rider.
