YORK-Duane L. Stauffer, 71, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Rest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of Avaleen M. (Klinedinst) Stauffer to whom he was married 52 years. He fought a courageous battle with blastic mantle cell lymphoma. A celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with Pastor Brian Rice officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Mr. Stauffer was born June 25, 1939 in York, a son of the late Donald Wickizer and Carolyn (Henry) Sellers. He was a 1957 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a 1963 graduate of the University of Miami, Fla., majoring in Marine Biology. He was a retired Biology teacher from Dallastown Area School District and taught Marine Biology and Oceanography at York College where he also developed the course Tropical Marine Science. He loved working with young people. He attended Living Word Community Church and deeply believed in their missions ministries. He was an avid scuba diver, loved hunting, having tropical fish in his home and working with the pheasants down at the Izaak Walton League. He also loved having family picnics “down in the hollow”, and his favorite flowers were always the rhododendrons that he planted. He was a member of AARP, the Izaak Walton League, and the York County Bee Association where he was a past president. In addition to his wife, Mr. Stauffer is survived by two sons, Craig A. Stauffer of Greenbelt, MD., and Steven L. Stauffer and wife, Heather S. of Dallastown; three grandsons, Brennan, Zachary and Daniel Stauffer all of Dallastown; a sister, Carol A. Stauffer; an uncle, Albert Henry; cousins; and nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Four Diamonds Fund at the Hershey Medical Center,500 University Drive, Hershey, PA, 17033-0850.
