Duane A. Merrill

LOCK HAVEN - Duane A. Merrill, 81, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Manor Care, Jersey Shore. He was born on September 28, 1931 in Woolrich and was the son of the late Charles E. and Edith L. (Burkholder) Merrill. On May 07, 1955 Duane married the late Marjorie L. (Jordan). They celebrated 31 years of marriage together until her death in 1987. Duane served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and received a National Defense Service Medal. Duane worked for the Y.M.C.A. of Lock Haven for 6 years, Wendell Coys of Farrendsville, and retired from Piper Aircraft after working in the aviation industry for 27 years. He was a member of Cedar Heights Bretheren in Christ, Mill Hall. Duane also was a lifetime member of Citizens Hose Company No. 5, Lock Haven. He enjoyed hunting, puzzles, camping in Loganton, antique cars and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Duane is survived by four daughters; Darlene Adams of Berwick, Helen Katherman of Lock Haven, Duana Merrill of Lock Haven and Wanda Erb of St. Marys, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother; Robert Grayden Merrill of Jersey Shore, two sisters and one brother-in-law; Harriet and George “Gene” Smith of Mount Juliet, TN and Roma Zener of Tylersville along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Duane was preceded in death by three grandchildren, one brother; Jerry Merrill and two sisters; Edith Zink and Fern Carson. A public viewing will be held 6:00-9:00p.m., Tuesday, September 03, 2013 at Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd, Mill Hall, PA 17751 and again from 10:00-11:00a.m., Wednesday, September 04, 2013 followed by the funeral at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Ken Lynn officiating.
