MONTOURSVILLE - Dr. William H. Sprinsky, 69, died of pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at The Gate House, Williamsport. For 30 years, he was the loving husband of Evelyn M. "Lynne" (Manov) Sprinsky who survives. She is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Williamsport. William was born on June 26, 1939 in the Bronx, NY, a son of the late Samuel and Rose (Baiczer) Sprinsky. William earned his Bachelor's degree at the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the Ohio State University. In 1960, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served three combat tours during the Vietnam War. He was retired as a Colonel ()-6) in 1984, after 24 years of service, including stations in Germany and Iran. From 1984 until 1991, he was the first chairman of the Dept. of Photogrammetry, Cartography, and Survey at Texas A & M. University. He then taught surveying at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, from which he retired in May 2007. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son; Matthew Samuel Sprinsky of Cincinnati, OH and one daughter; Judith E. Sprinsky of Gatlinburg, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother; Gerald Sprinsky. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA with full military honors on Wednesday, February 4,, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. There will be a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatica Running and Walking Team, Lorenzen Cancer Foundation, 312 ½ Fountain Avenue, Pacific Grove, CA 93950, or to The Gate House (hospice), Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1100 Grampian Boulevard, Williamsport, PA 17701-1946, Arrangements are being handled by Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport.
