South Williammsport - Dr. S. Ernest "Ernie" Chianelli, 95, of 835 Sylvan Dell Park Road, died on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Evelyn L. (Campbell) Chianelli for 68 years before her death in 2002. He was born on November 25, 1911 in Williamsport and was a son of the late Michael A. and Mary (Poleto) Chianelli. He was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School, LaSalle College and received a Doctor of Dentistry from Temple University. He had served in the Army Dental Corps during the Korean War with the rank of Major. He returned to Williamsport and practiced dentistry for 63 years. "Ernie" was known for his fine tenor voice. He sang for weddings, the Elks Chorus, the Mater Dolorosa Church Choir and several stage productions throughout the region. He also sang as a soloist in the "Community Sing" held annually in Brandon Park. Dr. Chianelli was a life long member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the Lycoming Dental Society, the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks, which he was a 70 year life member and the American Legion post #1 for 51 years. He was an avid golfer, member of the Williamsport Country Club and the Eagles Merc Golf Club. He also enjoyed golfing at Southern Pines in North Carolina. Dr. Chianelli served two terms as President of the Lycoming Dental Society and served as an active member of the Committee in a successful effort to fluoridate the local water supply; President of the dental staff of the Williamsport Hospital and in 1958, was elected Chief of Oral Surgery where he served for two years. Dr. Chianelli is survived by three sons; Dr. Eugene W. Chianelli and his wife Emily of Huddleston, VA, Robert E. Chianelli and his wife Gerry of Williamsport and Michael Chianelli of Fishkill, NY, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Ethel Duffy for her companionship and friendship over the years. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister; Elvira Chianelli and one brother; Eugene Chianelli. A mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 635 Hepburn Street, Williamsport with Father Michael McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. There will be a public viewing 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Care Hospice, 190 Choate Circle, Suite B, Montoursville, PA 17754.
