York - Dr. Jay C. Weist, 82, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, August 31, 2008. He was the loving husband of Lucille (Reidenbaugh) Weist. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008 at First Church of the Brethren, 2710 Kingston Rd., York with the Rev. Donald Hubbell and retired pastor Rev. Curtis Dubble officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of the arrangements. Jay was born on March 9, 1926, in Ephrata, a son of the late Jacob S. and Clara (Brightbill) Weist. Shortly after beginning pre-dentistry studies, Jay entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served as a pharmacy technician in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He later finished his undergraduate work at Juniata College and graduated from Temple School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. He married Lucille on Christmas Day of 1950, and practiced dentistry in York from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. Jay was the school dentist for Central York High School and was the past President of the York County Dental Society, as well as a member of the Central York School District school board, the North York Lion's Club and the American Dental Association. Jay's interests included gardening and spending time with his family. In addition to Lucille, Jay is survived by three sons, Curtis J. Weist of Gaithersburg, MD, Michael A. Weist and his wife Kim of Indianapolis, IN, and J. Philip Weist and his wife Donna of York; two daughters, Debra W. Coleman and her husband Patrick of Ellicott City, MD, and Lucinda W. Manera and her husband Jim of Malibu, CA; nine grandchildren, Sean & Ryan Coleman, Caroline & Josiah Weist, Adam Weist, Brett & Rebecca Weist, and Isabella &Francesca Manera; two brothers, Donald Weist and his wife Nancy and Glenn Weist and his wife Nancy, both of Ephrata; and a sister, Erla Bowman and her husband Lewis of Ephrata. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Robin L. Weist of York. Jay is preceded in death by a son, baby David R. Weist. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Brethren, 2710 Kingston Rd., York, PA 17402.
