Dr. Gopalakrishnan S. Nair at 3777 Cayuga Lane passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2018 at home peacefully. He was born on January 19, 1933 in Kerala, India. He had his education in chemistry in B.S, M.S. and PHD from Kerala University in India. As he was growing up in India, his dream was to come to America for more education and opportunity. His dream was fulfilled when he received an atomic energy fellowship to attend training at Ames Laboratory, at Iowa State University. He received further training in rare earth research, at Ames Lab from 1965-1966. He returned to India to "Indian Rare Earths" and worked there for the next five years. He came back to America as an emigrant in 1971. He settled in York from 1972 to this date. He worked at Molybdenum Corporation for 15 years. Upon retiring from the Rare Earth Chemical industry, he started a modest residential rental business. He had very good family values. He loved India, his birth country and USA, his adopted country equally. He instilled in his children and grand children his core values of hard work, following one's dreams; caring for family, friends and even strangers with compassion. He is survived by his wife: Santha; three children: Suresh, Radha and Sridhar; and four grandchildren: Raell, Asheesh, Jacob, and Aishwarya. Loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle; Dr. Nair will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Nair at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
