TROY, PA- Dr. Edward T. Myal, 64, of Troy, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the Troy Community Hospital. He was the loving husband of Connie (Judson) Myal. The couple had over 25 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 3:00-6:45 PM on Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Masonic rites will be given at 6:45 PM on Friday night by Trojan Lodge # 306 of Free and Accepted Masons. The Mass of Christian Burial to honor Dr. Myal's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday December 27, 2008 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 24 North Washington Street, Canton, PA, with Msgr. Steven McGough officiating. Dr. Myal was born on August 8, 1944 in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA. He was the son of the late Edward and Bertha (Topolnak) Myal. He was a graduate of South Huntington High School near Greensburg, PA, St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, IA. After medical school, he practiced medicine for 7 years in Lower Bucks County at Delaware Valley Hospital in Bristol from 1970-1977. In 1977 Dr. Myal moved his practice to Troy, PA, where he later became Chief of Staff at Troy Community Hospital. In Troy, he did everything from assisting in surgeries to delivering babies. When Troy Hospital ran into financial hardship, Dr. Myal could be found working long shifts in the emergency room for no pay. Up until recently, he was still making house calls for sick patients. Dr. Myal was dedicated to his patients and the Troy Community, and was an organ donor. His presence will be missed in his community for many years to come. Dr. Myal was an avid sportsman. As a Boy Scout he achieved the highest honor a scout could receive, Eagle Scout. He played baseball for both his high school and college teams. Dr. Myal went on to coach the local American Legion team and became the Troy High School Athletics physician. He loved fishing and hunting with his close friends at his hunting camp, and belonged to the Troy Rod and Gun Club. He was member of the American Trapshooters Association (ATA), shooting locally and at the national "Grand American" ATA shoot in Vandalia, Ohio. His association and club memberships include: the American Osteopathic Association, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the Croatian Fraternal Union of America, the Troy Vets Club, the Moose Lodge of Bristol, PA, the Wheel Inn Club, and Fur, Fin, and Feathers of New York. He was a passionate model train collector and belonged to the national Train Collectors Association. He was a member of the Trojan Lodge # 306 of Free and Accepted Masons, was a 32nd degree mason of both the Valley of Towanda and Williamsport Consistories, was a proud member of the NRA, and a former member of the Troy Lions Club. Dr. Myal was a man of faith; he was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Troy. Dr. Myal loved his family and will be missed by them greatly. He is survived by his loving wife Connie, his son Nate (Angie) Judson of Columbia Crossroads, PA, his brother Walter (Bonnie) Myal and children Walter and Christina of Ruffsdale, PA, his uncle George (Doris) Topolnak of Yukon, PA, his mother-in-law Ellen M. Judson, his brother-in-law Louis R. (Vicki) Judson of Athens, PA and their children DeEtta (Denny) Murray, Louis (Jennifer) Judson, and Matthew and Michael Davidson, several cousins, and his dear friends Dan and Darlene Close. Dr. Myal was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Myal's memory to the American Heart Association, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17041.
