YORK- Dr. Dorothy (McCleaf) Winter, 102, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at York South Nursing & Rehab. She was the wife of the late Jean L. Winter who died on December 4, 1994. The couple wed on August 22, 1942.

Burial will be private at Codorus Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements.

Born on February 12, 1923 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Olive G. (Longenecker) Gaver. Dorothy was a 1941 graduate of William Penn High School. She went on to attend Provell’s Business School, received her A.A.B. degree from York College, received her M.S. degree in Education from Temple University and received her degree in Educational Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

From 1971-1990 she taught French within the Central York School District until her retirement. Dorothy was a member of the York County History Center and volunteered as a Penn State Master Gardener and at the York County Parks Hanover Junction Rail Trail.

Mrs. Winter is survived by her son, David Winter and his wife, Linda M. of Dover; two sisters, Grace Brant of York New Salem and Jane Nelson of York; and brother, Stewart McCleaf and his wife, Brenda of Willow Valley.
