Dr. Daniel D. Dowd, Jr.

YORK – Dr. Daniel D. Dowd, Jr., 70, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Defibaugh) Brogan Dowd to whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage.

Born August 29, 1952 in Binghamton, NY; a son of the late Theresa R. (Comeno) and Daniel D. Dowd, Sr.; he was a graduate of Scranton University and Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Dowd worked at Memorial Hospital as both an Emergency Dept. Physician and had a Family Practice and spent the final 31 years of his career with York Hospital in the Emergency Department. He had served as Secretary/Treasurer of York County Osteopathic Medical Society for over 30 years. Dr. Dowd served with the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Assoc. House of Delegates for 40 years, was a District Vice Chairman then Chairman from 1991-1995, spent 10 yrs. as a Trustee and member of their Executive Committee. He also served on the PA State Board of Osteopathic Medicine where he was elected Chairman from 2002-2005; and served on the American Osteopathic Assoc. House of Delegates for over 25 years. Dr. Dowd also held numerous positions at York Hospital and has authored and co-authored many medical articles and studies.

Dr. Dowd enjoyed coaching CYO Baseball for his children and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dallastown. He was a lifelong avid Yankee fan and loved attending games at Yankee Stadium. Some of his favorite times came from the families annual summer trip to Walt Disney World.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Dowd is survived by three sons, Daniel P. and wife Megan Dowd of York, David C. and wife Grace Dowd of Lancaster, and Richard J. Dowd of Philadelphia; three daughters, Rebecca M. Brogan and husband Joe Pistoria of Fawn Grove, Dr. Heather L. Dowd of Philadelphia, and Alicia C. Dowd of York; a granddaughter, Violette Dowd; and additional extended family.
