Dorris L. (Slagle) Sweigart

York—Dorris L. (Slagle) Sweigart, 85, died Monday, February 18, 2008 at Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Benjamin E. Sweigart, Jr. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with the Rev. Mark Heidel officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Sweigart was born October 15, 1922 in York, a daughter of the late Ivan and Elizabeth (Hoke) Slagle. Together with her husband, she was a small business owner of the Jewelbox, which they operated for 20 years. After which she worked in Retail for Bon-Ton, until her retirement in 1996. Mrs. Sweigart is survived by her son, Philip H. Cohen of York, two step-sons, Kenneth C. Sweigart of Dover and David W. Sweigart of South Hadley, Mass., two step-daughters, Deborah C. Berger of Mt. Wolf, and Vivian R. Kucinski of Shutesbury, Mass., 2 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, Richard Slagle of Spring Grove and a nephew, Richard Slagle II. She was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Slagle. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, MD 20871.
