Dorothy R. (Hengst) Markey

YORK - Dorothy R. (Hengst) Markey, 95, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at Manor Care Dallastown. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Markey. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 19, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Rd., Jacobus with her pastor, The Rev. Ray Hatcher officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Private burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born August 19, 1915 in York a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Cora S. (Williams) Hengst, she had worked at York Tape and Label and also had been a private housekeeper in York. Mrs. Markey was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and their Cover Girls group. She also enjoyed sewing, canning, cooking, gardening, and was an expert at indentifying flowers and birds. Mrs. Markey is survived by a brother, Donald L. Hengst of California; two nieces, Carolyn and husband George Ellis and Marion and husband Dennis Chronister both of York; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Geraldine Keener, Mabel Keener, and Arlene Stuckey.
