Dorothy R. (Gipe) Keesey

RED LION – Dorothy R. (Gipe) Keesey, 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. Mrs. Keesey was born in Craley on March 17, 1913. She was a daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth (Jones) and Harry Gipe of New Bridgeville, but was raised on the family farm by her beloved grandparents, James and Mary Ellen Jones. She attended Wilfred Academy of Hair Dressing in Philadelphia. She worked for many years as a cook for the Red Lion American Legion and later was employed at McCrory’s Distribution Center in York. Mrs. Keesey was a member of Shenberger’s Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed the friendship and love of the members at Craley Senior Center. Because of her love of knitting and crocheting she was a great contributor to the Caps For Kids project and other handicrafts. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Richardson and husband, Donald of Stamford, CT; two grandchildren, Vanessa Richardson and Thomas Richardson; a half-sister, Lois Shenberger and a half-brother, Ray Elfner. In her last years she enjoyed the kindness of dear friends Paul and Doris Forry, Linda Gardner, Dorcas, Stephanie, Becky, Amy, Susan, and Nancy. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Pastor Patricia Bollinger of Waters Edge Church will be officiating the service. Private burial will be in Shenberger’s Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susquehanna Senior Center, 2427 Craley Rd., Wrightsville, PA 17368 or to Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, 118 Pleasant Acres Rd., York, PA 17402.
