Dorothy Ness (Roth) Warner, 93 a lifelong York County resident died peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2014 in her apartment at Normandie Ridge Retirement Community. Mrs. Warner was born October 19, 1921 in York, Pennsylvania to Miles Hershey Roth and Laura May (Ness) Roth. She was the wife of the late H. Elmer Warner to whom she was married for 65 years. She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Mauger and her husband Paul, two sons Karl Warner Sr. and his wife Karen, and Michael Warner and his wife Deborah; her 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Haines, Jessica Kovash, John Mauger, Kathy Warner, Karl Warner Jr., Kenneth Warner, Kristi Kenney and David Warner; and her 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Dorothy or “Dottie” Warner was a graduate of William Penn Sr. High School, 19M39. Her life was dedicated to her love of her family, her church, painting, and gardening. She was a longtime member and past president of the Shiloh Garden Club. She was also active in the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania where she served as President and member of the executive board. She participated in the organization of flower shows and often served as a judge. She and Elmer traveled in Europe, America, and Asia, often studying the art in religion. She was particularly interested in the use of women in religious paintings, sculptures and figurines. She used her personal collection of Madonna sculptures and figurines in flower arrangements and described their significance speaking to women at church and garden club meetings. In recent years she had time for painting and art classes. Her art has been displayed in local shows and is enjoyed in the homes of her family and friends. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Otterbein United Methodist Church on West Philadelphia Street in York. An active member at Otterbein, she held numerous offices in the church and the United Methodist Women. The family will hold a private service to celebrate her life. Burial will be with her beloved husband in Greenmount Cemetery. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be sent to the 'Otterbein Memorial Fund' at Otterbein UM Church, 301 W. Philadelphia Street, York, PA, 17401. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
