Dorothy L. Reed

TROY - Dorothy L. Reed, Age 88, Formerly of Reddington Avenue Troy, PA went to be with Jesus because “It’s better than Christmas” holding Mr. Whiskers, on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Bradford County Manor. Dorothy was born July 15, 1925 in Williamsport, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Chamberlin) Reed. Dorothy grew up in Farmers Valley on a farm, she attended Case School on Fallbrook Road and was a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1944. Prior to retirement she was employed by J.C. Penney’s in Troy for 43 years where she worked as a clerk and office manager. Dorothy was a member of the Troy Presbyterian Church where she served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years, past member and Worthy Matron of the Maxwell Chapter #233 Order of Eastern Star. She also was a former member of the Professional Business Woman’s Group and was “Woman of the Year”. Dorothy loved to travel and had been to Europe, England, Ireland and Hawaii and many other places. She was voted Valentine’s Day Queen when she resided at Hillcrest Apartments in Troy. Dorothy’s memorial service and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947. Survivors include her sister Edith (Sam) Hurlburt of Troy, a brother Robert (Marcella) Reed of Alberta, Canada, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her feline companion for 13 years Cali. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and her sister Shirley Clickner and a niece Baby Sister Hurlburt. In lieu of flowers memorials in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Troy Food Bank or to the Special Olympics. The family would like to send a very heart felt thank you to all of the nurses, aides and staff at the Bradford County Manor and to Dr. Renzi and Dr. Good for the wonderful care that was given to Dorothy.
