Dorothy Jane (Jones) Gardner, 83, formerly of the Allentown area, passed away Friday, December 31, 2010 at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre on November 20, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Gladys Jones. Dorothy graduated from Hanover High School. In 1953, she married her husband of 53 years, the late James A. Gardner, and enjoyed raising her family. Dorothy was an avid volunteer in many fields. She dedicated her time to Lehigh Valley Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She was also very active with her husband at St. Thomas More Church in Allentown. The couple went on many retreats and Dorothy also helped with the church's ladies auxillary. She also spent time with the senior citizens at Allentown First Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Jones, and a sister, Thelma Ross. Surviving are daughters, Atty. Judith Price and husband, Atty. Joseph Price, Scranton; Mary Ellen Gardner, Downingtown, PA; Lizette Skweir and husband, Michael, Fort Myers, FL; son, David Gardner and wife, Shelley, Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Judith Ann Price, Colleen Price-Kearney, Joseph Price, James Price, Artem Desman, Jonathan Gardner, Ethan Gardner, Olivia Skweir, Sophia Skweir, and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church, 97 S. Franklin St. Wilkes-Barre, on Thursday at 9:30 am. The Reverend Doctor Robert Zanicky will be officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. The family requests that friends please go directly to the church. Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc. 465 S. Main St, Wilkes-Barre.
