Dorothy J. Gilhooley

AVOCA-Dorothy J. Gilhooley, 97, a resident of Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Taylor, formerly of Avoca, died Thursday, January 1, 2009 in Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. Born in Avoca on July 24, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Helen (O'Brien) Gilhooley. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Caroline and Elizabeth Gilhooley. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Avoca, with the Reverend Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Interment will be private in Mountain View Burial Park, Harding. There will be no calling hours. Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca, is in charge of arrangements.
