Dorothy I. (Miller) Hawkins

YORK – Dorothy I. (Miller) Hawkins, 89, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Darwin Hawkins. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Born February 20, 1924 in York a daughter of the late Paul E. and Lillie E. (Brenneman) Miller, she had worked as a private nanny and also cleaned personal residences. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene where she was awarded an “Excellence in Teaching Award” for her dedication to the children and nursery of Stillmeadow for over 50 years. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by two brothers, Edward Miller of Cocoa Beach, FL and Wayne Miller of Boynton Beach, FL; and two sisters, Gloria Flaharty and Charlotte Altland both of York. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Miller; and three sisters, Pauline Nickol, Anna Murphy, and Hazel Wilt.
