DALLASTOWN – Dorothy Irene (Barnhart) Knisley, 101, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Ross P. Knisley, who passed away April 12, 1961. The couple was married for 30 years before Ross’s passing. A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 161 North Main St., Red Lion, with Reverend David Tietje officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Cemetery, in East Prospect. Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Knisley was born December 28, 1910 in Yoe, PA. She was the daughter of the late Leander and Ida (Fix) Barnhart. She worked in various cigar factories, and retired from Stauffer Biscuit in 1976. Dorothy attended St. John’s United Church of Christ in Red Lion from her childhood, and upon her death, was the oldest active member. She liked to cook and bake, loved her flower gardens, and absolutely spoiled her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Knisley is survived by a son, Keith K. Knisley, and companion Theon Lentz; a daughter, Theresa K. Adams and her husband W. Craig; grandchildren, Cathy Kitzmiller, Lynn Dunn and her husband Gary, Lisa Benkert and her companion Scott Schroeder, Jeffery Keller and his wife Tammy, Barry Keller and his companion Shendra Smoker, and Denise Keller; great-grandchildren, Courtney Keller, Kraig Keller, Nicole Kriskie, Marcus Dunn, Damien Benkert, and Alex Keller; great-great-grandchildren, Ashion, Lyric, and Derrick; six brothers and four sisters. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Wilton L. Knisley, and a great grandson, Jordan Benkert. The family would like to thank Manor Care Dallastown, Grane Hospice, and Reverend David Tietje for the care and compassion during Dorothy’s illness.
