Dorothy Eloise (Ferrence) Montgomery

YORK – Dorothy Eloise (Ferrence) Montgomery, 90, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Normandie Ridge. She was the wife of George Montgomery to whom she was married for 65 years on April 30, 2011. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 28, 2011 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Rd., York with her pastor, The Rev. Jonathan L. Bausman officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. The graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM Friday in Greenmount Cemetery. Friends and family will meet in the Carlisle Road entrance of the cemetery at 1:15 PM. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born April 23, 1921 in York, a daughter of the late Ervin A. and Estella M. (Smith) Ferrence, she was a 1939 graduate of William Penn High School. Mrs. Montgomery had worked at the former York-Hoover Casket Co. as a young woman. She was a member of Aldersgate U.M. and its predecessor, Second EUB Church; where she had actively volunteered in the nursery for over 50 years. Dorothy enjoyed spending time tending to her garden. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Montgomery is survived by a daughter, Betsy A. and husband Samuel Deveney of York; two grandsons, Tristan M. and Sean S. Deveney; a sister, Lois Mae Ferrence of Gettysburg; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. Montgomery; a brother, Russell E. Ferrence; and two sisters, Mary Leik and Gladys J. Kerstetter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to Aldersgate U.M. Church, 397 Tyler Run Rd., York, PA 17403.
